The Hwy 111 Marketing Alliance has its origins in 1997 when founder
Lance Frank started
Palm Canyon Advertising to sell advertising on several on line publications
including
HWY111.COM and PalmCanyon.com.
Part of HWY111.COM's purpose was to establish an alternative media brand
to compliment
the dominant Palm Springs brand. The brand promotes the desert as a huge
theme park with
Highway 111 as the way to its many unique attractions. Alternately, it is
a necklace on which
each city is a beautiful jewel with Highway 111 as the common thread
which binds them.
PalmCanyon.com, as it is known today, was created to acclimate the people
of Palm Springs
to the concept as resistance to even the slightest dilution of their brand
dominance was anticipated.
In early 2004 this aspect of HWY111.COM was spun off into The Hwy 111 Marketing
Alliance.
It was hoped that the alliance would provide a framework for co-operation
rather than conflict for
latecomers who wished to exploit our brands. Though this initiative has failed
thus far, the creation
of the alliance was a necessary step in separating the community activism
and commercial
advertising aspects of HWY111.COM from its purely journalistic pursuits.
Though incorporation as a 501(c)(6) mutual benefit non profit corporation
is still being considered,
it has been decided that for now that the alliance will remain part of Palm
Canyon Advertising.
Its mission will be fulfilled by incorporating the concept into multi
media co op advertising on a
project by project basis using our highly effective Internet domains as Common
Interactive
Marketing Channels (C.I.M.C.)
