The educational requirements for the California Real Estate Broker License include college level courses inEconomics, Finance, Business Law, Real Estate Law, Loan Brokering, Appraisal, & Property Management. Applicants must pass a state proctored 5 hour test and meet experience, residency and background screening requirements.
The increased knowledge and experience enables Brokers to give their clients a higher level of service. The license also entitles the holders to start their own firm and work un - supervised if they so choose, but economies of scale prompt many Brokers to conclude their clients would be better served by associating with a larger broker as a "Broker Associate." In addition to office space and supplies, such an association can provide numerous advantages such as advertising, marketing, training, legal support, and an exchange of ideas and information working in a team environment with dozens of other agents.
